With the coming of Fiat into the lives of all Chrysler Dodge and Jeep employees, Jeep vehicles are going to need an Italian small car makeover. IED student Basil Kurkova has a solution for the Jeep family and their journey into the world of little rides – Jeep Pygmy. We have to say, it’s quite adorable, but will it blend? I mean…sell?

Jeep’s Pygmy could run on Fiat’s Panda 4×4 concept, which “features a viscous differential that engages the rear wheels when front wheel slip causes the oil to heat up.” The Panda and possible future Pygmy is only 62 inches wide and weighs 2,150 lbs. It’s a cute concept and with Wrangler growing to a 4-door the time may be right for a small Jeep.

2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Going Off-Road

How exactly does Chrysler get those off-road ratings for their Jeep vehicles, like the 2011 Grand Cherokee? Simple, you find a nice spot in NorCal or anywhere in the Pacific North West and switch on that 4WD. And like many we figured the world would never see another Grand Cherokee, especially after tiny-Euro-car maker Fiat purchased CDJ.

But fear not soccer moms, car rental agencies & college kids – Cherokee has been saved!

Just northeast of Sacramento, California lays the Rubicon Trail – one of the world’s most famous off-road sites. Treacherous rock, tall trees and hungry beasts sit in this cool mountain range, awaiting the arrival of automotive PR firms and new 4WD/AWD models, followed closely by camera crews. Basically, if your truck can make it here, it’ll make it anywhere. This is the spot where Jeep tested their all new Grand Cherokee. And to be honest, we’re impressed – not only because this is a Jeep enthusiast site. Cherokee is not longer just your dad’s “I don’t want a minivan but I have three kids” ride. It’s off-roading capability far surpasses some previous Jeep models.

Cherokee has several engine options, including flex-fuel 3.6-liter V6 with an estimated 280 horse power, and a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 generating 360 horse power. The latter will get you390 lb-ft of torque at 4,250 rpm. A 2011 Grand Cherokee should receive a starting price around $31,500 for base 4×2 Laredo, and possibly upwards of $45,770 for a 4×4 Overland. It’s simple but noticeable re-design also makes us want to pay close attention to up-and-coming Jeep Grand Cherokee models.

Jeep Rides the Trails with Wrangler Mountain Edition

Perhaps in 2011, Chrysler, Dodge & Jeep will have brand new models to promote at the North American International Auto Show. But 2010 is a restructuring year at Detroit’s NAIAS – and Jeep can only introduce modified Wrangler Special Editions. Name changes have worked before, right? For now, fans of Jeep can be pleased that their beloved beach comber, the Wrangler, has returned. CDJ-Fiat is offering two Special Edition variants of Wrangler for this year: Mountain and Islander Jeeps. Much like previous year SE’s the driver will receive upgraded trim, interior and a slight enhancement in off-road capability. Check out full details in the press releases below.

Jeep Wrangler Mountain – Further expanding the iconic Wrangler brand’s reach, Jeep delivers another high-impact, limited-edition model with the Jeep Wrangler Mountain edition. The Jeep Wrangler Mountain edition is based on the Wrangler Sport S package, and is available on Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited 4×4 models.

Exterior features include a unique “Mountain” decal on the hood with latitude and longitude coordinates that represent an actual location relating to the “Mountain” theme of the vehicle; painted high-gloss Mineral Gray 17-inch Moab wheels, grille and bumper appliqués; tubular side steps; 32-inch tires; black tail lamp guards; and a fuel-filler door from Mopar.

Available exterior colors include Rescue Green Metallic Clear Coat, Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat and Deep Water Blue Pearl Coat. Interior features include an embossed seat insert with embroidered “Mountain logo,” and anodized graphite heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) rings. The Jeep Wrangler Mountain option package will be available at a U.S. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $1,820.

Jeep Wrangler Islander – After more than 20 years, the unique Islander theme returns to Jeep.

The limited-edition Jeep Wrangler Islander is available on Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited 4×4 models. Based on the Wrangler Sport model, the Islander’s unique beach theme conveys open-air fun at first and every glance. Jeep Wrangler Islander is featured in unique Surf Blue Pearl Coat, and is also available in Stone White Clear Coat, Bright Sliver Metallic Clear Coat and Brilliant Black Crystal Clear Coat.

Other exterior features include an Islander “Tiki Bob” decal on the hood with latitude and longitude coordinates that represent an actual location relating to the “Islander” theme of the vehicle, blackside steps and popular Moab 17-inch wheels shod with 32-inch tires.

Inside, Islander’s seats are Dark Gray with Surf Blue inserts, blue stitching and an embroidered Islander “Tiki Bob” logo adorning the seat back. Blue stitching also has been added to the leather-wrapped steering wheel, with Mopar® rubber floor mats completing the beach theme. The Jeep Wrangler Islander option package is available at a U.S. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $1,120.

Jeep Takes Over NYC for Thanksgiving

Jeep is taking over New York City this Thanksgiving faster then the tourists rushing from Penn Station’s bowels. And why wouldn’t you run out of there, lest we be trapped with that awful classical music they pump over the loudspeakers. Jeep’s latest ad campaign has been plastered all over the public transit hub in Midtown, proclaiming statements such as “trading 40 hours for 40 mph” – which I guess has something to do with the stock market? Or maybe not, but it’s better than “I Live. I Ride.”

Times Square will be adorned with video screens on Thanksgiving Day, electronic billboards on the NASDAQ and Reuters buildings at 43rd Street and Broadway and 43rd Street and 7th Avenue are all part of a massive new advertising campaign. The videos will build on the new Jeep campaign that launched in October: “I live. I ride. I am. Jeep.”

The advertising banners and 30-second videos will run from 6 a.m. Thanksgiving morning until 2 a.m. Friday, Nov. 27. In addition to the digital billboards, Jeep will also debut a new television spot nationally on November 30. So keep your eyes off the floats and on these Jeep ads.

Chrysler’s latest ad for “The New Jeep” is about as intense as a remake of The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. At least that flick had John Travolta sporting a neck tattoo. See, when you ride in the new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon you are alive, apparently. But without any real advancement in design (outside or in) it’s hard to stand out from a crowd. That, of course, is a double edged sword – as many are not impressed with the more boxy angles Keep vehicles have adapted in the past few years. Don’t forget to barely show whatever it is you’re promoting:

Mopar Goes Jeep Crazy for SEMA 2009

Chrysler-Fiat and Mopar are going all out for the 2009 SEMA show – with a slew of hot upgrades including a Jeep Wrangler with more rubber then a condom factory. But the Jeep Wrangler is not going to be overly pimped-out. In fact, Mopar is keeping all the enhancements under its hood and chassis. The “Jeep Lower Forty Concept” features 40-inch x 13.5-inch tires mounted on Mopar’s 20-inch forged-aluminum wheels. Underneath the driver will find an AEV 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 conversion kit.

This was added to a stock, two-door Jeep Wrangler Rubicon without the use of a suspension lift. The team’s goal was to achieve added ground clearance without dramatically altering the vehicle’s center of gravity. The team removed copious amounts of body metal in order to provide room for 40-inch meats. Three inches are chopped from the windshield frame and a 10-degree rake is added.

Custom touches throughout the interior & exterior include front and rear fender flares are 1-inch wider and are located 4 inches higher than a stock Jeep Wrangler, and a color-matched center console and instrument panel. Seats are re-covered with Mopar’s Katzkin leather package in a two-tone scheme. Replacing the carpet is a durable, spray-in truck-bed liner. Rugged Mopar floor mats complete the theme.

Tuning made in Germany for the Jeep Grand Cherokee: STARTECH presents an exclusive customization program for the SUV. The extensive product lineup is distinguished by professional engineering and innovative design.

The face of the Grand Cherokee is customized with the stunningly styled STARTECH front spoiler with integrated LED daytime running lights in ‘Black Line’ design. The aerodynamic-enhancement component minimizes lift on the front axle at high speed and gives the 4×4 more passing clout.

Its counterpart in the rear is a special apron that features cutouts for the two characteristic oval-shaped chrome-plated tailpipes of the STARTECH sport exhaust system. The fully stainless-steel exhaust system is available for all Grand Cherokee models and produces a more exciting exhaust note.

The front axle features size 9Jx22 wheels with Pirelli Scorpion tires in size 265/35 R 22. The even wider rear axle combination of size 10Jx22 wheels and size 295/30 R 22 tires contributes greatly to the SUV’s even more agile handling with even greater safety reserves.

The STARTECH suspension kit is specifically calibrated for use with these low-profile tires. It lowers the ride height of the Grand Cherokee by some 30 millimeters (1.2 inches). The lowered center of gravity further improves cornering.

Exclusive interior design is yet another STARTECH specialty that is also available for the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The list of accessories ranges from a speedometer bezel with brushed aluminum design to aluminum pedals and door-lock pins to polished stainless-steel scuff plates with illuminated STARTECH logo.

Requests for even more customized interiors are fulfilled by the upholsterers in the company’s interior studio. There are virtually no limits to the selection of colors for leather and Alcantara or to the available upholstery designs.

The STARTECH SD6 tuning kit for the common-rail turbodiesel engine of the 3.0 CRD model bumps power output from standard 218 hp (214 bhp) to 262 hp (259 bhp) / 193 kW. Simultaneously peak torque jumps from 510 Nm to 580 Nm (376 to 427 lb-ft) between 1,600 and 2,800 rpm.

Cash For Clunkers – Jeep Takes Up Room on Trade-In List

The Cash For Clunkers tallies are in – and sadly many older Jeep models made its list. Out of the 130 page list released (Cash for Clunkers Trade-In Vehicles) about 5 pages are Jeep models – mostly early-to-mid 1990’s Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV’s. All thought this is not surprising based on the MPG rating needed to get C4C trade-in value, we WERE very surprised that some of the newest models, including several 2006 rides, were cashed.

Toledo, Ohio Jeep Plant to Reopen

On April 30th, 12 Chrysler plants were ordered to idle production as its parent company began talks with Fiat and other interested companies about a merger. Now that the smoke has cleared and Chrysler LLC is one with Fiat, 7 plants in the United States and Mexico are going to reopen. One of the largest Jeep production plants, located in Toledo, Ohio and responsible for making the Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Limited, will produce those vehicles again by the end of June.

“Production at two plants in Michigan, one in Missouri, one in Ohio, two in Canada and one in Mexico will begin during the week of June 29,” a company statement said. Other reopened plants are major providers of Dodge Ram pickup trucks (in Michigan and St. Louis). Finally some happy news for Chrysler and Jeep!
