2011 Jeep Cherokee STR8 Hits 500 HP
Jeep has announced their highly anticipated 2011 Jeep Cherokee STR8 will have over 500 horsepower under the hood. This comes as no surprise as the SRT8 engine variant was known at one point to be the fastest (at least domestic) engine for Jeep vehicles. In fact, the Cherokee was once touted as the fasted SUV on the planet.
Those were the days before Mercedes, Porsche and BMW all made Sport Utility Vehicles.
But Jeep is coming back with a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 (up from its current 6.1-liter HEMI engine) with an output somewhere in the 500 to 555 horsepower range. That’s enough to take back the top spot in the nonsensically-fast, juiced-up SUV segment. Is there still a market for that in 2010?
