When properly equipped, the 2008 Jeep Patriot is highly ranked in off-road capability for small crossover SUVs. Keeping its familiar ruggedness, the Patriot is also more functional with a slight price increase from last year’s model.

For the two trim levels, Sport and Limited, front- or all-wheel-drive is available. The Sport includes 16-inch wheels, cruise control, air conditioning and a CD/MP3 player. The more luxurious Limited adds 17-inch aluminum wheels, privacy glass, foglights, a leather trim and audio controls on the leather-wrapped steering wheel. A sunroof, six-CD changer and Boston Acoustics premium audio system with satellite radio are optional for both trims.

For a better off-road experience, the “Freedom Drive I” and “Freedom Drive II” packages provide hardware that makes the Patriot Trail-Rated.

The interior of the Patriot seats five occupants with an available gray or beige colored trim. The cargo area includes a removable flashlight and the Boston Acoustics audio system has speakers that swing out of the liftgate for camping or tailgating.

A 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine powers most Jeep Patriots with 172 horsepower. Five-speed manual transmission comes with the Patriot, but the continuously variable type (CVT) is optional.
